🚨
If your child is in immediate danger of hurting themselves or someone else, call 911.
Otherwise, call or text the Arizona crisis line at 988.
• Free, 24 hours a day, every day of the year. You do not need insurance, and you will not be turned away.
• A trained counselor will talk with you, help you decide what to do next, and can send a crisis team out to you if that would help.
⏱️
If a crisis team is coming to you: teams aim to arrive within about 60 minutes on average in Maricopa and Pima counties, and about 90 minutes on average everywhere else in the state. You can stay on the phone with the crisis counselor while you wait.
If you or your child is tribally enrolled or lives on tribal land, please visit this page for a list of lines that are often the best first call.
1. Call one of the programs listed below. Say which insurance plan you have and ask whether they are taking new patients. Every clinic listed below takes AHCCCS, but plans and networks change.
2. Ask about telehealth appointments. Many of these clinics can see your child by video, which can save a long drive.
3. Ask about rides. If you have no other way to get there, AHCCCS may cover non-emergency rides to and from covered appointments, to the nearest provider who can treat your child. Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card to set it up.
4. You never need approval ahead of time to go to a crisis center. Anyone in Arizona can walk in, with or without insurance.
The clinics below provide a higher level of care than virtual weekly therapy, such as:
• Intensive outpatient (IOP): about 3 days a week, a few hours each day. Your child lives at home.
• Day program (also called PHP): most of the day, 5 days a week. Your child still lives at home.
• Hospital care: your child stays at a hospital for a short time while things get safer.
For a lower level of care, see the Mental Health Resources (AZ) page.
